Interview with Björn Ferry: "My goal is to make the top 3 in the total world cup."Info: Weitere Sportlerinterviews und TerminplanAutor: Patrick Chojnowski, Johann Reinhardt Bjoern Ferry is currently the most succesful biathlete of the Swedish men's team. Having won the gold medal in the pursuit at the Olympic Games, he has reached the biggest success in his career until now. To LiVE-Wintersport he talks about this success and the preparation for the next winter. Where did you have training camps this summer and where is the next? I have been to 4 traing camps, and right now I'm travelling for the next one. May: Mallorca June: Ramundberget, Sweden July: Sollefteå, Sweden August: Östersund September 13-23/9 Toblach, Italy. Oktober 4-17/10 Ramsau, Austria. November: Muonio, Finland. Last season, you were only on the 16th place in the overall world cup but you have won the gold medal at the Olympic Games. Did you expect that the race would end so successful? My goal was to win an Olympic medal in Canada. I know my potential, but of course it was a little surprise for a lot of people that I won. The reason to my 16th place in the overall world cup was not bad shape. I was sick some races after Christmas, and after the Olympics. I missed seven races. Without sickness I probably would have been top ten in the total. What do you feel when you remember this race? What was your feeling when you came to the last shooting? It's a great feeling! I think about it every day. Olympic gold! That’s the best you can win! If I just relax and think about that I won, I still start to cry! It’s really big for me. Just before the last shooting I said to myself: - This is fun! And I managed to have fun; the last shot was in the middle! Which impression did you have of the Olympic Village? Nothing special, it’s just a village. What experiences did you have in your free time at the Olympics in Canada? I had some really good cafe latte with the rest of the men’s team in Whistler. I'm interested in forestry. The trees in Canada are much bigger compared to Sweden. That was fun to watch for me. Which goals do you have for the next season? My goal is to make the top 3 in the total world cup and also win a medal in the world champs in Russia. What does your training consist of in summer and autumn before the first world cup competitions start? Mostly roller skiing and running. And shooting of course! Did you test something new in training or did you change your training somehow? The Olympic season is finished and a new four year-cycle has begun. Also you got a new coach. I have done a lot of biking the last 9 years. This year I switched over to running. I think it’s good to change the training sometimes. Until the last season, your coach was Wolfgang Picher. How do you feel about the cooperation with him in the last years and why did it end, at least with the Swedish male team? I have worked close together with Wolfgang for many years; it’s exciting to test something new. It was the right time for that. What happened that you started with biathlon? I noticed that I had a big shooting talent in the military service, some years later I tested biathlon and all of a sudden I was a member of the national team. My luck was that Sweden was so bad among the boys at that time. Staffan Eklund and Wolfgang searched for talents all around Sweden. |
